Generalized Degrees of Freedom Tests

BARGE:

This test is a barge modeled as a string of beams. First, traditional longitudinal strength is computed. Next, some modes are extracted and used as generalized co-ordinates. The deflections and forces are compared with those found via longitudinal strength.

BEAM_MOD:

This test is a simple cantilever beam. The natural frequencies and mode shapes are compared against classical answers.

DIFF_MOD:

This test compares the frequency response between a rigid barge and one with generalized degrees of freedom. Here diffraction is used.

FH_BOX:

The two tests RH_BOX and FH_BOX demonstrate two approaches to a problem. FH_BOX considers two boxes as a single body while RH_BOX is a traditional MOSES analysis of two boxed hinged together. Modes of this body are extracted, and used as generalized degrees of freedom. The data is constructed so that the motions of these two tests should be sensibly the same.

MORR_MOD:

This test compares the results of a stress analysis and "rigid" MOSES analysis with the results of generalized degrees of freedom.

RH_BOX:

The two tests RH_BOX and FH_BOX demonstrate two approaches to a problem. FH_BOX considers two boxes as a single body while RH_BOX is a traditional MOSES analysis of two boxed hinged together. Modes of this body are extracted, and used as generalized degrees of freedom. The data is constructed so that the motions of these two tests should be sensibly the same.

STRP_MOD:

This test compares the frequency response between a rigid barge and one with generalized degrees of freedom. Here strip theory is used.
