Printer Friendly MOSES Verification MOSES Verification

A Verification Document is available where MOSES results are compared with results for the same problem obtained by other means. This document is available as a pdf file which can be viewed with Adobe Acrobat Reader. Hint: Use the zoom tool in Acrobat to better view the equations.

The source of the MOSES results is a set of samples listed below.

PERIODIC MOTION:

There are two periodic motion samples:

PLATE DEFORMATION:

There are three plate deformation samples:

HOOP STRESS:

There are four hoop stress samples:

HOLE:

There samples looks at the stress concentration factor of a circular hole in a rectangular plate.

GENERALIZED DEGREES OF FREEDOM:

There are four generalized of freedom samples:

BEAM RESIZING:

There are five beam resize samples:

STRIP THEORY:

This sample is used to verify strip theory calculations. Answers from this analysis are used in a comparison with model test results.

3D DIFFRACTION THEORY:

This sample performs a Three Dimensional Diffraction analysis in the frequency domain of the semisubmersible Balder. Results of this analysis are used in comparison with model test results.

WIND AND CURRENT FORCES:

This sample performs looks at different ways of computing wind and current forces. It also looks at the damping produced by these "current force" attractors.

PIPELAYING:

This sample computes the configuration of a pipe being layed in 1600 meters of water. Results of this analysis are used in comparison with results from the computer program OFFPIPE.

TANKER MOTIONS:

This sample analyzes the horizontal oscillation of a single point moored tanker exposed to head wind and current.

WAMIT TO MOSES COMPARISON:

J.Ray McDermott prepared a comparison of the hydrodynamic results computed by WAMIT and MOSES using 3D Diffraction. Five different models were studied: a simple box, a vertical cylinder (SPAR), a general ship form, a TLP and a semisubmersible. Added mass, damping, wave excitation and RAO information is presented. results show favorable agreement between the two programs, click here to view the report (PDF)
