Q:
I just changed my laptop for a new one
without a parallel port. How do I use the
MOSES hardware key?
REV 7.01
A: You need to convert from a hardware to a "software" key. Click here to read about to convert to a network security key and follow the instructions. When we get your mail, we will send you a key file and instruction on how to install it. When everything is working, you can ship back your key.
Q:
I have moved MOSES to a different machine, now the
hardware key no longer works. I get the message,
"*** WARNING: Failed Key Check, Continuing with Minimum Capabilities".
I have placed the key on the original machine, and
it still works properly, so the key is good. I have
reinstalled the key drivers, so this is not the problem.
This is not a Dell machine, so I do not have the parallel
port setting problem noted in a question below. What more
can I check?
REV 6.01
A: You need to confirm your parallel port is actually working. We have received reports that checking the port using windows manager in Windows XP is not reliable. This may indicate the port is properly configured and working, when in fact, the BIOS setting shows the port is switched off! Use the BIOS setting to confirm the port is on, which can only be entered during boot up. Thanks to John Davis with Worley in Perth for this.
Q:
I am trying to install MOSES on Windows 2000, but I get the
message,
i "*** WARNING: Failed Key Check, Continuing with Minimum Capabilities".
Why is this?
REV 6.01
A: Sounds like you do not have the key drivers properly installed. Go to c:\ultra\bin\win32\key_drv, and run setup.exe. You need to do this as administrator, and reboot your machine. When you run setup.exe, the dialog box opens with a default setting of:
c:\ultra\bin\win32\key_drv\i386.
There is no i386 subdirectory, so simply specify:
c:\ultra\bin\win32\key_drv
In the above, the path to the ultra directory is assumed
to be c:\ultra, change this to suite your installation.
Q:
The hardware key was working properly on a particular machine,
but when I switched to a Dell computer, the key no longer
works. Why is this?
REV 6.01
A: The key we use cannot be seen with the default port mode of ECP (Extended Capabilities Port) on the Dell Optiplex. This appears to be the case for many Dell machines. To fix this, go into the BIOS and change the parallel port mode to either PS/2 or AT. Save the applied changes and reboot. You will need to un-install and re-install the key drivers after the BIOS change. To re-install the key drivers, go to c:\ultra\bin\win32\key_drv and run setup.exe. For Win2000 and WinXP, you need to do this as administrator, and reboot the machine. When you run setup.exe, the dialog box opens with a default setting of c:\ultra\bin\win32\key_drv\i386. There is no i386 subdirectory, so simply specify c:\ultra\bin\win32\key_drv.
Q:
MOSES was working fine and I moved it to another machine.
It worked fine there, but when I brought my hardware key
back to the first machine, it gave an error message that
the key was not properly installed. How can this happen?
REV 5.06
A: This can be caused by a difference in date between the two machines. The key is most likely now invalid, and needs to be returned to us for a replacement.
