MOSES Security
This page deals with two related issues: how to find the ethernet
address of a machine and how to check that your system is "ok"
for MOSES. The script ea_get serves both purposes. How they work
differs, however, between the Windows and UNIX worlds. In both
cases, you must use a command prompt, and execute ea_get from
the \ultra\bin\security directory. On UNIX,
you can simply issue the command:
ea_get
or
ea_get name
In the first case, you will receive the name, IP address, and
Ethernet Address of the local machine. In the second, you will get
the same information about the remote machine named "name". These
commands will also create a file named "send". If you are using this
to establish security, simply fax or email us this file.
In the Windows world, one should use a slightly different command:
ea_get xxx.x.xxx.x
where xxx.x.xxx.x should be replaced with the IP address of the
machine for which you want the ethernet address. IP addresses are
not nearly as friendly as names, but names are not always available
in Windows. To use ea_get, one first needs to find the IP address of
the machine in question. This is accomplished by running on
this machine the command:
ipconfig
This command will tell you the IP address and the ethernet address.
Here, using ea_get simply checks that MOSES will run properly.
If you are having trouble with MOSES security, you need to run ea_get and specify the IP address you supplied us. (This is contained in the file \ultra\data\site\server). If the ethernet address returned is the same as you sent to us, then there was a typographical error made somewhere in the process and we need to send you a new file. If you do not get the expected result, then
- The machine specified is on a different subnet than the one you are using, or
- The local language makes our interpretation of the output incorrect.
